On Monday, December 11, New York City was rattled by an attempted terrorist attack that took place in the passageway connecting the Times Square and Port Authority subway stations. The suspect is now in police custody, and four minor injuries have been reported. Thankfully, there were no deaths reported. We are grateful to the NYPD, FDNY, Port Authority Police and all first responders for their swift action in such a dangerous and unpredictable situation.
Events like today’s attack can disrupt the sense of safety for all New Yorkers, and especially the approximately 5.7 million people who ride and rely on the New York City Subway system every day. They can also stir up difficult memories of past attacks on New York City. For many, the increased police presence around the city can feel unsettling. These feelings are normal.
