SAFE HORIZON STATEMENT ON THE NEED FOR LEGISLATIVE AGREEMENT TO REFORM NEW YORK’S STATUES OF LIMITATION ON SEX CRIMES AGAINST CHILDREN

NEW YORK (June 10, 2016) Safe Horizon’s Vice President of Government Affairs, Michael Polenberg, made the following statement in response to ongoing debate in the Legislature about the Child Victims Act.

We are happy to have the support of the Governor on so many of the key provisions backed by advocates and survivors. We are encouraged that the Assembly has made their position on each provision known. We hope there is continued dialogue and that the Senate will acknowledge that New York should not have some of the most restrictive laws in the nation in regard to statutes of limitations for childhood sexual abuse.

Last year alone, Safe Horizon, the nation’s largest victim’s services agency, helped more than 5, 000 child abuse survivors through its Child Advocacy Centers.

About Safe Horizon
