About The Issue
New York’s current domestic violence shelter system makes it incredibly difficult for single adult survivors of domestic and gender-based violence to access life-saving shelter. Without this critical resource, survivors fleeing violence and abuse are left with few, if any, options to find safety and healing. This disproportionately hurts LGBTQ+ survivors, trafficking survivors, and older adults—survivors more likely to seek shelter without children.
How You Can Help
We aim to flood the Governor’s office with postcard messages from New York constituents like you, affirming that we stand with survivors and that this issue can’t be ignored. Survivors can’t wait any longer.
- Shortly you will receive your own batch of postcards! When you receive your postcards in the mail, add a short message explaining why this issue matters to you. Sample messages below, feel free to use these or customize to your voice:

Mailing Postcards to Albany
When your postcards are done, just drop them in the mail with the stamps we’ve provided no later than October 2. Make sure to include a New York return address on the postcard before mailing so that the Governor’s office can confirm you are a constituent. Thank you for advocating for survivors with us!
