Survivors of sexual assault and advocates gathered in Times Square on Monday to mark two years since a Cornell University student, identified as Jane Doe, says she was raped by seven fraternity brothers.

The victim service organization Safe Horizon also released a public service announcement in support of Jane Doe, who has faced backlash, including threats and doxxing attempts, since filing her lawsuit against the university.

The PSA, “Trauma Takes Time,” features survivors of sexual assault, child abuse and intimate partner violence. Organizers said it is meant to address why some survivors wait years before coming forward.

TIMES SQUARE, Manhattan (WABC) — Several dozen advocates and survivors gathered in Times Square on Monday as Safe Horizon marked two years since Jane Doe was allegedly raped at Cornell University.

The rally was held as part of the organization’s “Trauma Takes Time” public awareness campaign, which aims to elevate awareness about victims of sexual assault.

Advocates and survivors shared their experiences during the event in Times Square. Organizers said they heard from survivors of rape and sexual assault, both men and women, with some speaking publicly for the first time.

MIDTOWN, Manhattan (PIX11) — It’s an informational campaign that’s meant for both survivors of sexual assault and the general public that’s been released on the second anniversary of the alleged gang rape at Cornell University.

Titled “Trauma Takes Time,” the sex crime survivors’ advocacy group Safe Horizon says that the program’s message is intended to help people — including survivors — understand and accept that delays in reporting sex crimes are common, but do not diminish the importance of reporting them.

Safe Horizon hosted a rally in Times Square in conjunction with the campaign’s release.
