Why We Give: Parrish Family Challenge Supports Victims of Violence and Abuse

By Steve Parrish
April 1, 2017

As Safe Horizon’s Board Chair, I am proud to be part of an organization that stands alongside victims of violence and their families. Since the 1990s, my family has been deeply involved in supporting Safe Horizon’s incredible services that help all victims of violence, including children, move from crisis to confidence every day.

Services such as the Child Advocacy Centers that, last year, helped 6,462 child victims of sexual and severe physical abuse. In addition to the Child Advocacy Centers, did you know that Safe Horizon supports children and young adults in so many more ways? For example, Safe Horizon’s court programs helped 10,469 child victims/witnesses of abuse receive free, supportive, and educational care this past year alone. And Streetwork Project provides more than 15,000 outreach contacts to homeless young people. During these contacts, Streetwork staff provide information, food and other necessities.

I have had the privilege of seeing how Safe Horizon makes a difference through these services as well as meeting clients and hearing their personal stories. It’s always a powerful experience, and I can tell you that your donations absolutely change lives.

That’s why I want to offer you the opportunity to make an impact in children’s lives right now. If you donate today, my family will match your gift up to a total of $25,000! This opportunity to double your impact is available for donations received by April 30, 2017.

Each year Safe Horizon touches the lives of more than 250,000 New Yorkers, and at least 30,000 of them are children. As a father and grandfather myself, I could not imagine the devastation my family would feel if one of my grandchildren was harmed in the ways some of Safe Horizon’s youngest clients have been. That is why my family and I support this important work, and we hope we can encourage you to as well. Your donation gives survivors of violence and abuse a safe harbor when they desperately need it.

Join me, my wife Diane and our whole family in making a difference. Together we can ensure Safe Horizon’s life-saving services for children, and all victims of violence will remain strong in 2017 and beyond.
