Safe Horizon Appoints Six New Members to Board of Directors

Members include corporate leaders, equity and inclusion experts, and academics

NEW YORK – Safe Horizon, the nation’s largest victim services agency, today announced the appointment of six new members to its Board of Directors.

The recently appointed members are Megan Driscoll, CEO & Founder at EvolveMKD; Jim Fulton, Partner, Cooley LLP; Umar Haider, Managing Director & Partner, Boston Consulting Group; Mary Beth Marshall, Of Counsel, Safe Horizon; Susan K. Reid, Managing Director, Human Resources and Global Head of Diversity & Inclusion at Morgan Stanley; Ovita Williams, PhD, Executive Director, Action Lab for Social Justice, Columbia University School of Social Work.

“I am truly pleased to welcome this talented group of professionals to our board,” said Michael C. Slocum, Board Chair. “Their unique expertise, perspectives, and leadership will be invaluable as we work together to advance Safe Horizon’s mission.”

Safe Horizon helps 250,000 New Yorkers a year who are survivors of crime or abuse find safety, support, hope, and connection. The board supports Safe Horizon’s vision of a society free from violence and abuse.

“These six new members bring a diversity of strong skill sets in law, finance, human resources, higher education, social justice, and communications,” said Liz Roberts, CEO. “Their heartfelt commitment to our mission, combined with their expertise, will greatly enrich Safe Horizon’s work.”

Driscoll is the CEO + Founder of EvolveMKD, an award-winning public relations and digital marketing agency based in New York City. She has 20 years of experience working with brands in the healthcare, prestige beauty, and lifestyle industries. She joined the board in January 2022.

Fulton is a partner at the international law firm Cooley LLP, where he focuses on representing both emerging and established technology, healthcare, and biotechnology companies and the venture capital firms that invest in those companies. He joined the board in November 2021.

Haider is a Managing Director and Partner at Boston Consulting Group (BCG). He is a leader within Consumer Practice focused on strategy, growth, and commercial topics with Consumer Goods clients. He joined the board in November 2021.

Marshall currently serves as Of Counsel to Safe Horizon. The former litigation partner at Decker Hardt in Dallas holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Texas in Austin and a Juris doctorate and master’s degree of liberal arts from Southern Methodist University. She also holds an associate’s degree in culinary arts from Le Cordon Bleu. She is a long-time volunteer for Safe Horizon and joined the board in September 2021.

Reid is a Managing Director in Human Resources and Global Head of Diversity & Inclusion at Morgan Stanley, guiding the firm’s diversity and inclusion strategy. She mentors employees, creates spaces for difficult conversations, and engages with firm leaders and community partners to prioritize diversity and inclusion in the workplace. She joined the board in January 2022.

Dr. Williams is a Lecturer in Discipline and the Executive Director of the Action Lab for Social Justice at Columbia University School of Social Work. A licensed clinical social worker, she previously served as the Associate Director of Field Education. Dr. Williams implements a three-pronged approach of education, practice, and research through anti-racist and anti-oppressive lenses to build more equitable practices in academic institutions and social service organizations. She joined the board in January 2022.
