Nothing is more important to Safe Horizon than the victims we serve and the trust they place in our organization.
In October 2015, Safe Horizon learned that Petal Foster, a former Safe Horizon employee, apparently had used information about a client illegally. At the time that Safe Horizon learned of this matter, Ms. Foster was no longer employed at Safe Horizon. Ultimately, Ms. Foster pled guilty to a felony and, on August 8, 2016, was sentenced to five years of probation for identity theft. We have supported and advocated for the affected client throughout this process.
Ms. Foster worked in Safe Horizon’s Brooklyn Community Program. This program assists victims of all types of crime. We are deeply saddened and angered that a former employee violated our trust and that of our clients.
If you are an individual who received services through Safe Horizon’s Brooklyn Community Program and would like more information, please call 212-577-3026 or email resource@safehorizon.org.
It is very important to us at Safe Horizon that we provide guidance and support to any individuals who may have been affected by this identity theft.
