Description:Safe Horizon police programs are located in certain precincts or Police Service Areas (located in public housing complexes) throughtout the five boroughs. Safe Horizon police programs perform outreach to domestic violence victims based primarily on Domestic Incident Reports completed by the Domestic Violence Police Officer based on domestic violence calls to the police.

A volunteer's role is fluid and varies according to the immediate needs of a program. Volunteers should expect to assist Safe Horizon staff in varying capacities.

The programs are open Monday-Friday, generally between 9-5PM, but the hours are site specific.

Responsibilities:The volunteer may perform administrative tasks such as,
• Data entry, photocopying and filing
• Preparation of materials
• Prepare mailings
• Online research
• Answer phones as needed
• Provide recommendations to improve the center’s volunteer usage

Qualifications:Qualities needed:
• Willingness to give time, interest and energy to fulfill goals of the
program
• Willingness to work in an environment where clients may be in distress
• Ability to work both independently and as part of the team
• Flexibility and willingness to work on a variety of tasks
• Strong interpersonal skills necessary to communicate with staff and police
• Ability to work with a diverse staff and
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office

This is an unpaid, volunteer position.
