Summary: The Streetwork drop-in centers work with homeless and street involved young people. Serving clients from age 13 to 23, Streetwork provides individual and group counseling, case management, advocacy, emergency, transitional and permanent housing assistance obtaining Medicaid and other benefits, hot meals, showers , showers, clothing, HIV prevention counseling, and parenting groups, in a safe, non-judgmental setting.
The Lower East Side Crop-In Center serves lunch and dinner between the hours of 1 pm and 4 pm four days a week and is looking for volunteers to assist with food preparation. These individuals would not need to obtain or possess a Food Handlers Certificate since some of Safe Horizon full-time current full-time employees have received their certificates. Volunteers also help serve clients meals and interact with clients while clients are eating.
Assisting with meal preparation
Chopping various vegetables
Serving made-to-order sandwiches to clients
Supporting manager with dinner preparations as requested
Additional Tasks (may include):
· Performing other kitchen-related tasks as requested by staff, such as taking inventory

If assigned as a volunteer, I agree to abide by all of Safe Horizon’s rules and regulations, and understand that, if assigned, my volunteer assignment may be terminated with or without cause, and with or without notice, at any time. I also understand that, as a volunteer, I am not an employee of Safe Horizon and that my volunteer work does not entitle me to any compensation or benefits from Safe Horizon.
I recognize that, as a volunteer I represent Safe Horizon to the public. I accept this responsibility and will conduct myself in a professional manner.
I will not engage in any sort of harassing, exploitative, and or intimidating behavior. I will also work to maintain an atmosphere of physical and emotional safety for everyone associated with Safe Horizon, including clients and visitors.
I agree to honor any time commitment that I make to Safe Horizon. I agree to provide as much advance notice as possible in the event that I will be absent from my volunteer shift. I agree to update my personal information and emergency information as changes occur.
I am voluntarily participating in this service with the knowledge of any potential hazards involved and hereby agree to accept any and all risks of injury. I hereby release Safe Horizon from all actions, claims, or demands that I, my assignees, heirs, guardians and legal representatives now have or may hereafter have for injury resulting from my participation as a volunteer.
I acknowledge and agree that while visiting a Safe Horizon program, I may be provided and may have access to confidential and proprietary information of Safe Horizon, including client information, addresses and information regarding confidential Safe Horizon locations and/or information relating to statistics, business records and operational practices of Safe Horizon (hereinafter “Confidential Information”). I agree that I will not disclose, or cause to be disclosed in any way, any Confidential Information which I acquired while visiting Safe Horizon unless authorized by Safe Horizon. I understand that I will be responsible for any liability resulting from my failure to keep such information confidential.
I will not make any disclosures to the media on behalf of Safe Horizon unless specifically authorized by the Chief Executive Officer or designees.
