Position:Donor Communications Associate

Description:The Donor Communications Associate will help the agency increase individual gifts and organizational fundraising goals. S/he and will be responsible for the preparation and submission of appeals, reports, presentations, other fundraising materials, and other special projects as assigned. Advise on and facilitate the recognition of donors in both print and web-based publications.
Responsibilities:• Create template correspondence documents that can be customized for use with individual donors and oversee the process for executing the correspondence.
• Write appeals, reports, letters of intent, briefs, acknowledgments, presentations, and other communications to individual donors and other funding sources in a timely manner online and by mail as needed.
• Coordinate with program to solicit client stories.
• Under the direction of the Director of Individual Giving, establish metrics for success and evaluate success of stewardship strategies based on these metrics.
• Conduct research, collect, analyze and interpret data and information needed for proposals, reports, budgets, etc., utilizing Safe Horizon’s donor database information and other electronic resources to develop fundraising materials and appeals.
• Provide editorial assistance: edit and proofread drafts of appeals, proposals, reports, presentations, and other material, including making editorial recommendations.
• Support the stewardship responsibilities of the development team in creating and coordinating individualized stewardship plans for donors.
• Work collaboratively with development and communications teams on development of a range of communications vehicles, including letters, invitation lists, establishment of programs, and engagement of program participants, program scripts, participant remarks, and donor awards and recognitions.
• Develop website content to support development goals.
• As directed by the Director of Individual Giving, makes effective interpersonal connections with donors and other stakeholders.
• Assist with special projects for the Development team and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:• Bachelor's degree and two years of experience with individual donor cultivation and solicitation.
• Superior writing skills: demonstrated track record in writing compelling appeals securing significant funding from private funding sources.
• Ability to easily change writing styles to fit the audience and voice of the piece.
• Ability to interact effectively with a wide variety of people with diverse communication styles.
• Strong research capacity; interpreting, analyzing, complex development issues and representing such information in a clear and concise written manner for target audiences.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively to achieve stated goals.
• Ability to adhere to tight deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously with independence; ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality required.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required, with strong Excel skills and Raiser’s Edge experience preferred.
