Description:Safe Horizon executes two signature annual fundraising events, the Champion Awards Dinner and the Hope on the Horizon Breakfast. In addition to these two signature events, the Special Events Director works with the Safe Horizon Junior Council to create and produce one annual fundraising event as well as service events, and also manages 3-4 cultivation events each year for the Corporate Development and Major Donor teams.

Responsibilities:• Develops event concepts; including but not limited to theme, event participants and honorees, venue, artistic elements and kick-off and ancillary events;
• Manages all logistics for the event, including facilities, transportation, contracts, seating charts
• Creates donor and sponsor opportunities for each project with related benefits and recognition;
• Works with the Development Committee and board members to identify and select event participants including honoree(s), event sponsors, in-kind gifts and committee members;
• Manages all other events for Development, including cultivation events, cocktail parties, community fundraising events
• Works with Marketing Communications on coordination of press for events
• Writes all event solicitation and collateral materials, including solicitation and acknowledgment letters, solicitation forms, invitations, journals, web content and manages production of all these materials
• Works with executive office, government affairs and other key senior staff to manage their participation in these events including their invitees
• Supervises volunteers for the events
• Works with the Junior Council on the budget and execution of their annual event
• Creates all event solicitation materials and coordinates all solicitation activities
• Works with Chief Development Officer, Corporate Development and Individual Giving to identify prospects and strategies to secure sponsors, committees, and in-kind support to fund raise for events
• Developments and manages budgets;
• Responsible for supervising event staff and volunteers at events
• Develop strategies to grow each special event
• Directs execution of the creative identity of events.
• Creates and produces event program and run of show;
• Oversees sourcing and management of all vendors
• Directs creation and management of event logistics; including: event timelines, production schedules, and day of schedules;
• Directs staff and committee meetings internally and with external stakeholders.
• Spearheads special projects as determined to further Safe Horizon fundraising capacity.

Qualifications:Required Education: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of training and experience

Required Knowledge and Skills:
• Self-motivated and demonstrated leadership
• Ability to handle multiple tasks with organization, flexibility and accuracy;
• Strong interpersonal and communications skills including the ability to handle high wealth individuals and corporations
• Strategic and creative thinking
• Proven writing skills
• Knowledge of print production environments
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment and manage multiple demands.
• Ability to work well independently as well as in a collaborative team-oriented environment.
• Comfort working with various constituencies and skilled in articulating the mission of Safe Horizon
• Enthusiastic, self-motivated and committed to excellence.

Required Experience:
• 3-5 years experience managing special events
• 3 years experience fundraising in the nonprofit sector
• 2 years print and graphics production experience
• 3 years writing experience in an events or development department
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Internet research
• Given our nature and timing of our events, must also be willing to work evenings and occasional weekends
• Experience with Raiser’s Edge or similar fundraising database
