Position:Senior Case Manager- EVE Project

Description:The Brooklyn Criminal Court Program provides a safe reception center and various services to assist victims of crime navigate through the criminal justice system. The program provides crisis intervention, case management services, advocacy, information and referrals and practical assistance to survivors and victims of crime, providing client-centered safety assessments and risk management plans and reducing the impact of victimization.
The Early Victim Engagement (EVE) Project is part of the Brooklyn Criminal Court Program. The Senior Case manager working in the EVE project reaches out to victims shortly after their cases have been arraigned in criminal court to provide them with critical information on the outcome of the arraignment and to connect them to needed services.

This is the foundation of client-centered practice. At Safe Horizon, Client Centered Practice means supporting clients as they make difficult choices in their lives around their safety.

Responsibilities:• Conduct outreach calls to victims post-arraignment and conduct safety assessments, provide information on the criminal justice system and link clients to services;
• Provide the above services to victims of domestic violence who appear in court at arraignments;
• Collaborate with court personnel and KCDA victim liaisons to ensure that clients have all pertinent criminal justice information in order to make informed decisions regarding safety;
• Conduct client-centered safety assessments and prepare risk management plans;
• Provide court orientation, criminal justice advocacy, accompaniment and support;
• Provide emergency practical assistance including transportation, food vouchers, financial assistance, and lock replacement;
• Provide information and referrals for services such as shelters, long-term counseling, public assistance and other entitlements, and assistance with crime victim compensation by assisting clients with filing claims with the New York State Office of Victim Services (OVS);
• Assist clients with filing Family Offense petitions in the night arraignments court and explaining the process;
• Participate in staff meetings, partner meetings and relevant trainings and seminars;
• Submit accurate monthly statistics reports in a timely fashion; and
• Various other duties to be determine by supervisor.

Qualifications:• Sensitivity towards and understanding of victimization, especially the experience of survivors of domestic violence;
• Strong communication and organizational skills;
• Ability to work under pressure in a calm and reassuring manner.
• Ability to generate one’s own tasks and develop creative solutions to problems.
• A Bachelor’s degree or high school diploma and equivalent training and experience



• Experience working with survivors of domestic violence;
• Experience with the criminal justice system;
• Phone outreach experience, especially comfort level using Language Line; and
• Bilingual in Spanish strongly preferred
