Description:The Domestic Violence Shelter programs offer a comprehensive range of services including counseling, advocacy, intervention, and support to meet the needs of victims and their families.

This is the foundation of client-centered practice. At Safe Horizon, Client Centered Practice means supporting clients as they make difficult choices in their lives around their safety.
Responsibilities:The Employment and Career Counselor provides assessment for the developing and implementing of a comprehensive plan that will result in residents entering skills training, education classes and employment. They will also provide pre-vocational activities, such as interviewing skills, life skills and job placement.

The Employment and Career Counselor is responsible for the following:
• Oversees initial interview of resident to obtain vocation/educational background information to identify preliminary vocational/educational needs.
• Develops and retains a solid list of reliable and appropriate resources for job training, placement and referrals
• Maintains a caseload for vocational services
• Completes a career plan to identify short and long term objectives for residents
• Administers vocational interest tests to help residents define career interests and direction.
• Provides group and individual counseling of residents
• Assists residents with job development: offers workshops in employability and job preparation skills; supports residents during job training and/or job search process, offers post-employment counseling to residents in an individual or group setting
• Establishes linkages with vocational/educational services providers in the community and refers residents for services
• Previews, updates and maintains case records
• Prepares monthly progress reports on caseload statistics
• Maintains required forms and statistics on resident contacts, referrals and placements
• Attends case conference meetings
• Provides technical assistance to case managers related to vocational services and goals.
• Attends training sessions and supervisory conference as scheduled

Qualifications:Master’s Degree in related field, and one year experience, or a Bachelors Degree in a human services field with five years related experience, preferably in human services setting.
