Description:: Safe Horizon is the nation’s leading nonprofit victim assistance, advocacy and violence prevention program. Safe Horizon’s Child Advocacy Centers play a critical, front-line role in responding to child sexual abuse and severe physical abuse by providing a coordinated and collaborative approach to the investigation of such cases, while ensuring that victims receive immediate, effective support. In each Child Advocacy Center (CAC), Safe Horizon partners with the New York Police Department, the Administration for Children’s Services, the local District Attorney and local medical providers (Brooklyn Hospital Center and LIJ/North Shore Schneider’s Children’s Hospital), to ensure that an expert response begins as soon as a child victim steps through the door. At the Safe Horizon CACs in Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island, a team of child protective caseworkers, police detectives, pediatricians, prosecutors and Safe Horizon staff work together in a child-friendly setting to conduct joint forensic interviews and provide expert evaluation and treatment services, in order to improve the quality of child abuse investigations, prosecutions and outcomes and minimize the trauma to child victims and their families.
Responsibilities:The delivery of immediate, expert, therapeutic services is an essential component of the Child Advocacy Center model and the primary role of the Clinical Forensic Specialist.

Secondary Job Functions: Responsibilities include:
• Participating in the forensic interview process through assuming a lead role or observing the interview of the child, coordinating services with the multi-disciplinary team members, and debriefing the child and family;
• Conducting a through assessment of the child and the non-offending family members to determine the impact of the trauma on the child’s functioning, and the need for treatment for the child and family.
• Providing trauma focused crisis intervention and support to the child and non-abusing parent(s) in the process of making effective linkages to mental health treatment and other services if warranted;
• Coordinating with the Senior Case Manager and multidisciplinary team to ensure that the child’s and family’s needs are addressed, and the family is kept informed;
• Participating in multidisciplinary case review to represent the child’s interest and advocate for their needs;
• Maintaining accurate case files;
• Entering and maintaining case data in the NCAtrak, the CAC case tracking system, for every child victim, from the opening to the closing of a case;
• Other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned
Qualifications:Required skills: Candidate should possess excellent engagement, interviewing, crisis intervention and assessment skills. Ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team with a willingness to appreciate different points of view and solve problems in a constructive manner required. Must have strong written and communication skills.

Qualifications:
• A Masters Degree in Social Work, Psychology or related field required;
• Clinical licensure preferred.
• At least one year of post-Master’s degree experience, preferable with children and families impacted by violence/abuse.
• Experience in Forensic Interviewing and Extended Forensic Evaluation or willingness to acquire these specialized skill required.
• Bi-Lingual (Spanish/English) required

Other: Full-time, Late afternoon/evening weekday hours.
