|Description:||Safe Horizon is the nation’s leading nonprofit victim assistance organization. For over 30 years Safe Horizon has been working with victims of crime and abuse in the NYC area, including victims of child abuse, domestic violence, sexual assault, and other forms of crime and abuse. Safe Horizon’s programs--including community offices, domestic violence shelters, court programs, police precincts, child advocacy centers, hotlines, anti-trafficking program, homeless youth services, and mental health treatment center--touch the lives of more than 250,000 New Yorkers every year. |
Safe Horizon is the largest provider of domestic violence shelter residences in New York City, with 9 shelter programs and 745 beds. The Associate Vice President (AVP), working with the Vice President (VP) will assist in managing a budget of approximately $17 million and a staff of 200. The AVP will also assist with the overall administration and leadership of the domestic violence shelter program, which serves approximately 3,000 clients each year. The AVP is part of the team that is responsible for ensuring that the shelter programs provide high quality, client-centered, trauma-informed and culturally competent services to survivors of domestic violence and their children. The AVP will be responsible for maintaining constructive collaborative relationships with partner agencies in the public and private sector and further integrate the shelter program into the agency’s continuum of services.
|Responsibilities:||• Provide the leadership and management direction for nine domestic violence shelter and/or scattered site programs representing 745 beds in the New York City area;|
• Assist VP with supervision of Shelter Directors’ and ensure consistent policies and practices are developed, implemented, and maintained in the areas of staff hiring, regular meetings, staff development and training;
• Ensure implementation of a client-centered approach in all nine shelters through staff training, supervisory support and education around Vicarious Trauma;
• Participate in the development and ensure appropriate implementation of systems and strategies that facilitate maximum resident utilization of shelter;
• Responsible for the aggregate revenue target and ensuring that effective budget management processes are employed for shelter programs;
• Collaborate with the Facilities and Property Management team to ensure physical plant and supply needs are in place to support the overall needs of the programs on a consistent basis;
• Responsible for ensuring and maintaining licensing requirements with state, city, and local regulatory entities (such as but not limited to: New York State Office of Children & Family Services, New York State Office of Temporary and Disabilities Administration, and the New York City Human Resources Administration Office of Domestic Violence and Emergency Intervention Services) by responding to audits, developing operational plans, and managing the recertification process for programs;
• Oversee to completion the application process for new dwellings when appropriate;
• Work with the VP and administrative team to ensure consistency, collaboration, and complementary services between programs and ensure for this consistency by developing a manual of operations for shelter programs that is updated regularly;
• Work with the VP and administrative team to develop and implement an electronic case management system for the shelters;
• Develop and maintain referrals and collaborations within shelters (and other SH programs) to include written procedures where appropriate for partner programs including but not limited to (The Anti-Violence Project, Safe Horizon’s Anti-Trafficking program, Safe Horizon’s Domestic Violence Law Project, Safe Horizon’s Mediation Programs, Administration for Children’s Services, and Family Justice Centers);
• Partner with the Development Department in a wide range of development activities, including but not limited to preparation of grant proposals, presentations to prospective or current donors/funders, and hosting site visits for current or prospective donors/funders;
• Partner with the Marketing/Communications Department in responding to media inquiries, which may include giving interviews for print, radio or television audiences, and participating in the development of materials designed to increase the public’s awareness of Safe Horizon or educate the public on domestic violence;
• Increase the awareness of Safe Horizon’s DV services by engaging is activities such as but not limited to presenting at conferences and/or other speaking engagements;
• Participate in a leadership role in the development of new initiatives to include answering RFPs; and
• Complete all other duties as assigned.
|Qualifications:||• Must possess a demonstrated capability of developing innovative approaches through team building, systemic change and interagency collaboration. |
• Strong writing and public speaking skills with an ability to manage and organize multiple projects in a busy, pressured work environment required.
An advanced degree (MSW, JD, PhD, MPA, or related field)
A minimum of five years of supervisory experience in a social service capacity, preferably with three years of supervisory experience directly related to the field of domestic violence
