Description:The Domestic Violence Law Project (DVLP) was established by Safe Horizon in 1991. Since its inception, DVLP has provided high-quality legal advocacy and representation to thousands of low-income and indigent battered women in family justice proceedings such as order of protection, custody, support, and divorce proceedings; the DVLP also advocates for clients within the criminal justice system.

Responsibilities:• Responsible for operating DVLP’s legal helpline which provides callers with important legal information, referral for other services, and initial legal services intake;
• Field caller questions, conduct caller interviews and assessments and refer cases;
• Provide information regarding the criminal justice system, public assistance, social security and welfare, immigration law, housing law, shelters, divorce, and employment.
• As appropriate, make referrals for victims of domestic violence to other Safe Horizon programs and partner agencies for additional services, such as Safe Horizon’s Hotline for information, referrals and access to NYC domestic violence shelters; other relocation assistance; supportive counseling; case management; and medical facilities;
• Translation/Interpretation for staff attorneys or law student interns. This includes accompanying attorneys to court to interpret, translating court orders and stipulations, and letters. Interpreting intensive client interviews;
• Maintain case records and statistics as required;
• Manage petty cash account and all administrative processes such as, payment requests, Information Systems Technology requests, purchase orders, Facilities requests; ordering, distributing and keeping inventory of all office supplies;
• Assist in coordinating special events;
• File, copy and general clerical tasks;
• Provide emergency practical assistance; and
• Provide support to Staff attorneys and Supervising Attorney as needed.

Qualifications:• Bilingual required (Spanish)
• Microsoft office proficiency


• BA/BS preferred
• Prior experience in Domestic/victim services preferred
