Description:At Safe Horizon, we believe our clients are the experts in their own lives. In order to help a survivor of violence, we must support their right to make their own decisions and choose their own path based on what is most important to them. This is the foundation of client-centered practice. At Safe Horizon, Client Centered Practice means supporting clients as they make difficult choices in their lives around their safety.

The Family Court program provides a safe reception center and various services to assist survivors and victims of crime navigate through the Criminal and Family Court systems. The programs provide crisis intervention, case services, advocacy, information and referrals and practical assistance to survivors and victims of crime with an overall goal of promoting survivor safety and reducing the impact of victimization.

Responsibilities:• Intake and screening of direct service clients;
• Providing clients with the proper resources based on the intake assessment;
• Managing the Reception Center including greeting and signing in clients and visitors;
• Answering telephones and responding to service inquiries and providing information and referrals;
• Assisting crime victims in completing New York State Office of Victim Services Applications (OVS);
• Coordinating with outside agencies to facilitate services, ACS, HRA, Police;
• Arranging for transportation and financial assistance;
• Compiling records; maintaining and preparing statistics on a monthly basis;
• Performing other related tasks as assigned.

Interacts with:
• Family Court personnel including Judges, Clerks, and Court Officers
• Family Justice Center staff
• Civil legal attorneys including members of the 18B panel, law guardians, and domestic violence attorneys
• social service providers
• Other Safe Horizon staff

Qualifications:• Communications, written and verbal
• Computer
• Organizational
• High School diploma
• Experience in a social service setting


• Experience working with domestic violence victims
• Bilingual – Spanish
