Program: Streetwork Harmlem Drop-In Center, 209 W. 125th St. Manhattan Summary: The Streetwork drop-in centers work with homeless and street involved young people. Serving clients from age 13 to 23, Streetwork provides individual and group counseling, case management, advocacy, emergency, transitional and permanent housing assistance obtaining Medicaid and other benefits, hot meals, showers , showers, clothing, HIV prevention counseling, and parenting groups, in a safe, non-judgmental setting. The Streetwork Harlem Drop-In Center serves lunch and dinner between the hours of 12pm and 4pm four days a week and is looking for volunteers to assist with food preparation. These individuals would not need to obtain or possess a Food Handlers Certificate since some of Safe Horizon full-time current full-time employees have received their certificates. Volunteers also help serve clients meals and interact with clients while clients are eating.
Core Responsibilities: Assisting with meal preparation Chopping various fruits and vegetables Serving made-to-order sandwiches to clients Supporting manager with dinner preparations as requested Kitchen Maintenance Additional Tasks (may include): ·Performing other kitchen-related tasks as requested by staff, such as taking inventory
Qualifications: Non-judgmental Dependable Willingness to perform related tasks Attention to detail Requirements: Individuals who can commit 4-6 hours one day a week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday) for at least six months.
