Meet Our Volunteers: Vanessa and Amanda
Vanessa, Brooklyn Community program
"'Be the change you want to see in the world,' has been my aphorism for years. Safe Horizon’s mission is important to me, because I believe that people and societies co-depend on each other for survival and helping people without judging or criticizing is my goal; Safe Horizon’s business model and program offerings allows me to do just that in so many ways. From a personal perspective, being a Safe Horizon volunteer helps me relieve certain tensions and foster new perspectives for old situations creating a sense of growth and fulfillment."
Amanda, Bronx Criminal Court program
"I am often sitting at the front desk greeting clients as they come in. Being the first face victims see when they enter the office is both challenging and rewarding. It can be challenging when a client is very agitated and upset, but rewarding to see the confidence they walk out with after receiving our assistance. I choose to support Safe Horizon because I believe the services we provide are integral steps for a victim's recovery. We are able to provide some sense of calm and confidence to a stormy and chaotic situation."
Volunteers are an integral part of our mission: we could not do the work that we do without help from our volunteers. The information below outlines our volunteer experience and explains the next steps towards becoming a volunteer at our organization.
