Child and Family Traumatic Stress Intervention

Safe Horizon and the Childhood Violent Trauma Center at Yale Child Study Center

Introduction 

Safe Horizon and the Yale Childhood Violent Trauma Center have partnered to address the needs of children traumatized by abuse. Working together, we have adapted and implemented The Child and Family Traumatic Stress Intervention (CFTSI), a brief, evidence-based intervention for traumatized children for implementation at all four of Safe Horizon’s nationally accredited Child Advocacy Centers. Intended for children seven to 18 years old, the results revealed that after completing CFTSI, children report feeling significantly better with over half of their trauma symptoms decreasing. They also show reduced early post-traumatic stress symptoms and a decrease in the likelihood of developing long-term post-traumatic psychiatric disorders.
