On March 28, guests filled the theaters at Tribeca Cinemas to view TRUST, which details an emotional and thought-provoking story about a 14-year girl who is a victim of Internet stalking and sexual assault. The film stars Clive Owen (Children of Men, Sin City, Closer) and Catherine Keener (Being John Malkovich, The 40 Year Old Virgin, Capote) as the parents of a teenager who becomes the victim of a sexual assault. The story reveals the devastation it causes the entire family and the frightening reality of online predators.
The film was introduced by Ariel Zwang, CEO of Safe Horizon and board member Michael Slocum of Capital One, who graciously welcomed guests to the event. After the movie, Safe Horizon’s Chief Program Officer, Liz Roberts, moderated a panel discussion with director/producer David Schwimmer; Captain Joseph White of the Special Victims Division, New York Police Department; Dr. Ruth Forero, Senior Director and Clinician at Safe Horizon’s Counseling Center; and Amy Edelstein, Rape and Sexual Assault Coordinator for Safe Horizon’s Rape Crisis Program. Guests had the opportunity to engage in a Q&A session to discuss the important themes revealed in the movie.
David Schwimmer said, “I am so pleased to have Safe Horizon as a partner to share my latest film, TRUST, along with the organization’s many community partners and supporters. My hope is that the film prompts a much needed dialogue about the needs of sexual crime victims and the impact this devastating crime has on the entire family. I am grateful to Safe Horizon for being a part of the TRUST conversation and for providing much needed services to victims of crime and abuse in New York City, their families and the entire community.”
Safe Horizon acknowledges Tribeca Cinemas for helping make the event possible.
