In honor of International Women’s Day on Friday, March 8, Safe Horizon joined Speaker Christine C. Quinn, Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney, Council Member Jessica Lappin and other advocates at a rally in support of Governor Cuomo’s Women’s Equality Agenda. Safe Horizon CEO Ariel Zwang shared her support of the Governor’s 10-point proposal, along with dozens of female leaders throughout New York, to unite in a call to action for the empowerment of women.
Specifically, the Governor Cuomo’s 10-point proposal will include strengthening human trafficking and order of protection laws, in addition to ending housing discrimination for domestic violence victims.
Safe Horizon is so pleased to join Speaker Quinn, Representative Maloney and the many other dedicated elected officials and advocates here today to express our strong support for Governor Cuomo’s Women’s Agenda. We are particularly pleased that the Governor’s agenda includes important protections for victims of domestic violence and human trafficking. As the nation’s leading provider of services to victims of crime, we know that barriers to housing and relief in the criminal justice system can lead to repeated instances of violence and abuse. We applaud the Governor for proposing tangible steps to protect women and indeed all New Yorkers from further harm.”
