Maria de los Angeles Corral María de los Ángeles Corral has been named Senior Vice President of Marketing and Communications at Safe Horizon.

Founded in 1978, Safe Horizon provides assistance to homeless youth and families and victims of homicides, domestic violence, child abuse, rape, sexual assault, and human trafficking. Services including shelter, mental health counseling, and legal services are offered through 57 locations across the New York City region. Safe Horizon also strives to prevent violence, and promote justice for victims, their families and communities.

Corral previously ran communications and marketing at the American Red Cross of Greater Chicago, where she developed model programs that were adopted by chapters across the country, including award-winning public engagement campaigns. Corral also led the first U.S. Hispanic market branding campaign for Walgreen Company. Prior to joining Safe Horizon, Corral headed Latino communication strategy at the College Board.

Corral has dedicated the past 11 years of her career to working for organizations whose missions are to provide critical support to those in need, from emergency health care and disaster relief to education services. While at the College Board, Ms. Corral’s communications and marketing efforts contributed to strengthening the organization’s infrastructure to more widely and effectively serve Latino markets.

“It’s unconscionable that we live in a society where one in four women stands to experience domestic violence in her lifetime. Statistics like these compel me to be a part of Safe Horizon,” said Ms. Corral. “Safe Horizon provides unparalleled services to a quarter of a million victims of violence and abuse a year. I am eager to start raising critical awareness, multiplying our advocates, and showcasing our innovation to ameliorate the lives of thousands survivors of violence.”

“As the demand for our services grows, and resources become more constrained, we sought a communications and marketing leader who had significant experience in building top-of-mind reputations for public service agencies. We could not have asked for a better candidate in María de los Ángeles to lead our communications team,” said Ariel Zwang, CEO of Safe Horizon. “Her many years of experience as a leader in public service, along with her experience with multicultural markets, will be a powerful asset to Safe Horizon’s mission.”
