New York, NY, July 15, 2009 – Safe Horizon, the nation’s leading victim assistance organization, has been selected to participate in The Allstate Foundation’s summer click campaign challenge through its ClicktoEmpower.org website. The “Your Choice to Empower” Campaign gives visitors the opportunity to make a difference for domestic violence survivors by voting for the non-profit organization of their choice to receive a $100,000 grant. The organizations competing to receive the grant share The Allstate Foundation’s goals of working to end domestic violence and finding new ways to economically empower survivors. Safe Horizon, the only New York-based organization selected, is participating alongside Charity Cars, Family Justice Center Alliance, and the YWCA.
“The Allstate Foundation selected these non-profit organizations as contenders for the grants because of their strong leadership and programming in the area of domestic violence and economic empowerment,” said Jennifer Kuhn, Program Manager, The Allstate Foundation Economics Against Abuse program. “Rather than having us select the primary grant recipient, we wanted to get the general public’s input on which services they believe to be most crucial in assisting survivors of domestic violence.”
For over 30 years, Safe Horizon has been at the forefront of domestic violence assistance programs and services. With over 60 sites throughout New York City, Safe Horizon’s broad reach has provided countless victims of crime and abuse the help they needed to feel safe again and rebuild their lives. Through public-private partnerships with government, Safe Horizon has served as incubator for new and model programs, and has been a resource for victim assistance organizations and criminal justice agencies around the globe.
ClicktoEmpower.org visitors can help their favorite charity by “voting” once a day. The organization that receives the most votes will receive a $100,000 grant and the remaining three will each receive a $10,000 grant. Visitors can also learn more about each of the highlighted organizations and their domestic violence programs on the site.

About the Click to Empower Campaign and the Economics Against Abuse Program
ClicktoEmpower.org is the program website for the Economics Against Abuse program created by The Allstate Foundation in conjunction with the National Network to End Domestic Violence. The Allstate Foundation Economics Against Abuse program helps domestic violence survivors build their financial independence to get free and stay free from abuse. Seeing a significant gap in resources for programs designed to assist survivors with the economic challenges that they face, The Allstate Foundation took action and partnered with the National Network to End Domestic Violence to create a comprehensive program. Economics Against Abuse provides resources, funds direct services and spreads the word on how to empower those touched by domestic and economic abuse.
