Each year in October Safe Horizon commemorates victims and survivors of domestic violence during Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Join us and our community partners for special events and activities and learn how you can help make a difference for families in crisis through our programs and services.

Commemorated nationally. President Barack Obama has declared October 2012 as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month in the U.S., commemorating victims and survivors of domestic violence and raising awareness about one of the major public health issues for families and communities.

The Clothesline Project at Jacobi Medical Center

A Call for Letters to Harriet:By the Black Women's Blueprint

The Black Women's Blueprint highlights Harriet Tubman as history rarely shows her: as a survivor of domestic violence. To honor Harriet Tubman, the Black Women's Blueprint is accepting letters to Harriet from survivors, community members, and others, which will be showcased in a special exhibit on October 12. Panel Discussion: "Love in the Age of Hip-Hop"

Safe Horizon board member Sil Lai Abrams moderates "Love in the Age of Hip-Hop: Is Black Media Creating a Culture of Relationship Violence?" on Tuesday, October 30 at the Julius S. Held Lecture Hall at Barnard College in New York City.
The panel highlights the impact of television, music, movies, online media, and magazines on the Black community regarding relationships and domestic violence. Confirmed panelists include Ejeris Dixon, Alfred Edmonds, Jr., Karen Hunter, Jamal Joseph, Kierna Mayo, and Dr. Scyatta Wallace.
