15th Annual Champion Awards Honors Verizon
Safe Horizon is pleased to honor Verizon at our 2010 Champion Awards event for their outstanding support of individuals and families affected by violence and abuse.
Taking action on issues surrounding domestic violence has long been at the core of the corporate identity at Verizon. Verizon's commitment to preventing domestic violence began in 1995 when the company introduced its HopeLine program. For more than a decade, HopeLine has grown significantly and is now a multifaceted program that includes a successful phone recycling and re-use effort, financial support for local and national domestic violence organizations, community and corporate awareness programs, and partnerships with law enforcement agencies, professional sports teams, educational institutions, and corporations nationwide.
Jim Gerace, President of the New York Metro region for Verizon Communications, will accept the award on Verizon's behalf.
Since 2007, Safe Horizon has benefited from Verizon's passionate and steadfast commitment to SafeWork, a national movement to help corporate leaders in recognizing domestic violence in the workplace and taking action to address it. With a shared belief in the cause, Safe Horizon and Verizon together developed a unique SafeWork training model aimed to assist managers in responding to domestic violence in the workplace – from office buildings to call centers to retail locations. Today, this training has now been offered to thousands of Verizon managers across the United States.
