They may be known for their high-quality electronics, affordable merchandise, and user-friendly stores, but Best Buy also has an unbelievable commitment to giving back in their community. Check out the exciting ways that Best Buy has partnered with Safe Horizon recently:

4 Days
8 Safe Horizon Programs
18 Best Buy Team Members
287 Students with Brand-new Backpacks and School Supplies to Start their New School Year

Best Buy stores in District #58 came together, under the leadership of Amy Adoniz (General Manager, Store #1448 Columbus Circle), to collect donations and purchase back-to-school supplies for 287 children receiving services at Safe Horizon’s programs. To distribute these gifts, employees of stores throughout the district participated in a whirlwind of parties at domestic violence shelters in each borough and at the Best Buy Training Center in Manhattan. Children and families had the opportunity to share some snacks and laughs with the employees and to pick out their new school supplies to start the year.

Best Buy donated 70 tickets to the July 25th WNBA game for youth from Streetwork and other programs to cheer on the New York Liberty as they played the Los Angeles Sparks. A highlight of this fun night was the gift of food vouchers to treat everyone to dinner while taking in the game at the Garden!

Flat-screen TVs

Twelve Safe Horizon programs throughout the city are getting a new look with stunning LG Plasma Flat-panel screens donated by the Best Buy Store at Columbus Circle. With these new televisions in some of our child advocacy centers and domestic violence shelters, as well as our counseling center and Streetwork youth drop-in shelter, our clients and guests can take a break from the real world and relax for a little while.

wolf_mean_business_logo.jpgSafeWork at WOLF Conference

From August 20th to 22nd, a select group of Safe Horizon staff traveled to Boston to present three 75-minute SafeWork education and training sessions at the 3rd Annual Best Buy WOLF Conference, reaching 90 participants. Through customized trainings developed specifically for this conference, conference participants learned how to recognize, react and respond to signs of domestic violence. Best Buy founded WOLF Women’s Leadership Forum in 2004 as a way to empower female employees to become forceful business leaders. WOLF’s three pillars, Commitment, Networking and Giving Back, became a natural fit for the work of Safe Horizon and the SafeWork movement.
