Help and Hope for Child Victims of Abuse
Child victims of abuse can receive healing and justice thanks to Safe Horizon's Child Advocacy Centers. Each year, our centers handle over 4,000 cases of child abuse, providing safe, child-friendly places where children and their families find support and services because of our clinical and counseling staff, and thanks to our law enforcement, legal, child protective service, and medical partners.
A Refuge for Families from Domestic Violence
Domestic violence can cost victims everything, including the safety of their own homes. As the largest provider of services for domestic violence victims, Safe Horizon offers safe havens where nearly 2,500 children and families find shelter from domestic violence each year, as well as connections to services they need to help them heal, recover, and regain their lives from abuse.
Second Chances for Homeless Youth
Young people escaping violence and abuse at home often flee to the streets just to find more violence and abuse there, as well as the high risk of being exploited. Safe Horizon's Streetwork program is there for homeless youth. We provide over 45,000 hot meals a year, along with counseling, medical and practical help, emergency shelter space, and most important, a second chance to have a future.
Lifelines through Our Hotlines
Safe Horizon's three hotlines answer over 425 calls a day from individuals seeking help as victims of domestic violence, rape and sexual assault, and crime. Our hotlines are a gateway for victims to find the critical support they need to deal with the aftermath of crime and abuse.
Helping Victims of Stalking
An estimated 3.4 million women and men become stalking victims each year. Safe Horizon's anti-stalking program was the first in New York State to specifically address the needs of stalking victims, giving them support and the chance to find safety through our services.
Freeing Victims from Modern-Day Slavery
Millions of women, men, and children become victims of human trafficking, also called "modern-day slavery," each year. Safe Horizon's Anti-Trafficking Program educates others about the issue of trafficking, while we also give victims direct support through services and advocacy so they receive the justice they deserve.
Supporting Victims of Rape and Sexual Assault
Rape and sexual assault are crimes of violence, not of passion. Safe Horizon helps more than 1,300 survivors each year find the critical resources they need through our Hotlines and Community Programs, so they can overcome crisis and rebuild their lives after violence.
Giving Victims Places to Turn for Help
Our Community and Court services provide face-to-face support ranging from short-term counseling and practical and financial assistance to advocacy. Our legal services give domestic violence survivors and immigrant victims the chance to receive legal advice and referrals and to find legal representation.
Restoring Peace of Mind after Violence and Abuse
Trauma from violence and abuse can cause victims to suffer long after an incident occurs. Safe Horizon's Counseling Center is New York State's only licensed mental health treatment clinic specializing in treating trauma in victims of crime and abuse. With more than 4,000 hours of treatment each year, we have the expertise to help restore peace of mind.
